Wedding Reception Perfection: Tips and Suggestions

By Ron Carpenito Over the past years I have performed at many, many wedding receptions. From my experiences I’ve come up with some keys to help insure a smooth, enjoyable and trouble-free day. I’d like to share them with you. DJ Location and Setup Since your entertainer will need to be heard by all attending, he/she needs to be in an area that is open and visible to all. Do not hide your entertainer in a corner or in the back of the room. The music levels required to reach the dancers and guests would be most uncomfortable for those near the DJ. If you must have your entertainer in the back or corner see if the hall can provide a stage, this will help with visibility and sound quality. The Seating Plan Make an effort to seat older guests and young children away from the DJ area. The sound levels needed to cover the entire hall will be too loud at the source for your older guests. Young children tend to run around and could trip on equipment, wires, video light setups, etc. Seat the young adults to middle aged guests by the DJ area, they are typically not upset by the music nearby. Most halls, without prior word from you, will set up the entertainers, videographer, and photographer in a separate room for dinner, this is inadvisable. The DJ needs to be in the hall to keep the music going during dinner and to interact with your guests. The videographer and photographer should be there as well to capture any spontaneous acts by you and your guests. If you are going to provide a meal for your professionals I recommend setting up a smaller cocktail style table (to save space) next to the DJ area for the entertainers. If a separate table is not possible then seat them at the closest table to the DJ area. The Plan of Events Your entertainer should finalize your plan of events in a reference style format for you and your event professionals. This reference sheet should also be shared with your wedding party during your rehearsal dinner. This way everyone in the wedding party will have an idea of what will be happening the next day. Party On! With any wedding the main focus will be on the bride, groom, and wedding party. It is imperative that these key players are in the room, and together at all times. Should the bar be located far from the dance floor, or in another room more often than not the groom and ushers will congregate there. This leaves bridesmaids without dance partners (which is sometimes how they like it!). Keep this in mind if your hall gives you an option as to the location of a mobile bar. Position the bar as close to the dance floor area as possible. Everyone loves children, however children’s behavior (running, sliding, jumping) can effect your dance floor environment. Ask your function hall if there is an area (photo room, separate room) that is available to you. Ask a friend, family member or even a baby sitter to monitor the kids, help them with their meals, and entertain them with games, stories, and activities. This will give their parents a chance to relax and really enjoy the evening knowing their children are being taken care of. Plus you’ll be saving the dance floor for the dancers! It’s great to give your DJ a list of your favorite selections to play. However, sometimes your favorites are not the ones that will move your dance floor. Give your DJ the flexibility he/she needs to work in your guest’s requests, sure hit selections, and your personal favorites. Have confidence in your entertainer. Since they have played to many audiences they are best qualified to find the right mix to motivate you and your guests. The night is a success and there is only one hour left. This is the time to let the entertainer know that you wish to extend the services. This way they can tailor the music accordingly. Also, be sure to check with your function coordinator and other professionals on their charges and requirements for time extensions. Changing At The End Should you decided to change clothes before your last dance, you should determine ahead of time how long it will take, then plan to be changed and ready 15 minutes before the end of the event. This will give you time for your last song (4-6 minutes) and time to say good-bye and thank you to your friends and guests (9-11 minutes). Save Money While Shopping For Food

By Liz Palmer Buying food can be downright depressing. Personally, I love to shop for food, but in the past my experience was often ruined by the total of the bill when I reached the checkout. By learning a few simple rules to follow, I no longer frown when I fork out my money. Instead I smile, because I know that I have bought enough food to keep my family well-fed without spending a lot of money. Here are some ways you can save money too. 1. Make a list. It’s so simple, but it’s so important. Writing a list helps you identify and buy only those items you really need. Now, stick to it. Don’t even look at anything that’s not on that list. 2. Write out a meal plan. Think about the cost of each meal and try to include more low-cost meals. Try to think of ways that ingredients or left overs from one meal can be used in another meal. 3. Don’t go hungry. Go straight after lunch or dinner. If you shop when you’re hungry, you’ll be more likely to pick up impulse products. Everything look’s good when you’re hungry. Or you might feel the need to stop somewhere afterwards for a little snack. 4. Leave the children at home. Children have a tendency to ask for things. And when their irritable, and you’re frustrated, and you’re in a supermarket attracting disapproving stares, you’re more likely to give in. Save yourself the hassle and go by yourself. However, when the children are a little older, take them along every so often to teach them good budgeting techniques. 5. Treat specials with caution. Never buy something just because it’s on special. You might end up spending more than you usually do because you’re buying a more expensive brand. You could also buy items that you would never normally use. 6. Stock up. However when products that you normally buy and frequently use are on special, stock up. Work out how much of the product you would usually use before the expiration date. Buy accordingly, in keeping with your budget. Liz Palmer writes ebooks for families. Holistic Medicine: What is It?

By Bethany Klug I practice holistic medicine and Im often asked what that means. Heres how I define it. The Gift of Time. I set aside 90 minutes for the first visit to permit time to listen to my patients story. This way, I learn the many different factors influencing my patients well-being and can get to the root causes. I cant do this in twelve, even 20 minutes. Sometimes a potential patient will ask why my appointments are longer than usual. I explain that my conventional medical training taught me to listen for symptoms then quickly order tests or write prescriptions. This model lets physicians see a large number of patients in a short amount of time. However, drugs and surgery silence symptoms, but rarely change the underlying disease. This never made sense to me, and I sought a different approach. Restoring Health. I dont fight disease. I help my patients restore their health. Each patient leaves with a regimen designed to create the causes and conditions for health. With that, their own self-healing ability, an idea that goes back to at least Hippocrates, cures their ailments. I have a special interest and faith in diet to do this, but I also use bioidentical hormone replacement, nutritional supplements, homeopathy, and cranial osteopathy. I often advise patients to learn mindfulness meditation, yoga or tai chi to cultivate mind and body awareness, and to calm their overtaxed nervous systems. I refer when other modalities seem appropriate, such as acupuncture or psychotherapy. This model of restoring health is the model of the future. My hope is that more physicians will adopt it. Until then, the American Holistic Medical Association website http://www.holisticmedicine.org has a doctor finder that can help you find someone like me in your area. What Is A Marketing Initiative?

By Khemal Dole Marketing is not as simple as many may lead you to believe. In order for your business to be effective, you need to understand what is involved in promoting what you are offering in terms of products and services. That is where a good marketing initiative comes in to play. A marketing initiative is essentially anything that is clearly defined as a marketing effort. Simple, isn’t it? It is basically anything specific in your marketing plan. So what types of things are considered marketing initiatives? Here are a few examples that may help you. For larger companies, a marketing initiative can be a theme. For instance, a set of commercials that use a specific character or funny situation over and over may be considered a marketing initiative. This, though, would certainly be more common with large businesses. An example of this is the Geiko commercials that feature the cute talking gekko. The initiative is to associate their car insurance services and products with a character that sticks in your head. Being cute is an added advantage. This is why many commercials use cute, cuddly characters such as babies and puppies etc. Another example of a marketing initiative is undertaking a certain method relentlessly. Sometimes you may wish to focus your efforts solely on one method of marketing. If, for instance, you decide to implement email marketing with great fervor, then you can call that your email marketing initiative. You will outline a plan very specific to that initiative. And you will carry it out. Focusing your efforts into a sole initiative demands that you understand it intimately. You better know what you are doing if that’s the ONLY initiative you’ve got. In addition you also need to have a backup plan in case your initiative does not come through for you as you hoped. Often, when you put all your eggs in one basket, you better have more eggs! Another type of marketing initiative you may invoke is a large scale shift in what you are doing. If you are going away from traditional marketing to exclusively use the internet that is a whole new marketing initiative you are putting in place. Though not as specific as other examples, it is certainly something that directly affects the marketing of your company. These types of initiatives are usually done parallely with your existing marketing initiatives. The old initiatives are slowly phased out as the new one takes over. A marketing initiative can also be as simple as a shift in an idea. You can have a new marketing initiative that simply changes the way you promote your company, or more specifically what about the company you are trying to promote. A shift in positioning is a good example. Marketing initiative is a broad term that is used often. However, if you understand what it is you will be more able to effectively put an initiative in place if you need to. Changing or implementing an initiative is a big part of the promotion of your business. So it’s important that you understand what it means in the first place. Holistic Health CareWhat and Whom

By Dorothy M. Neddermeyer, PhD The Baby boomersthose born 1946 through 1964are the largest population to require health care than ever before. Medical practitioners and pharmaceutical companies are focusing on what pills, potions or surgeries the baby boomers-turned seniors will be likely to use in the next 30 40 years. Ironically, the majority of people tend to be concerned about their health after something major has occurred. The truth is if we consistently take good care of our health the aging process has little impact. Baby boomers are voicing their concerns about better health, more than prior generations. However, many do not know where to find information and options, other than Traditional Western Medicine (TWM). Few people research the plethora of side effects for prescription or over-the-counter (OTC) drugsnot to mention that prescription and OTC drugs are formulated to take over and hijack your body’s biochemistry. Prescription and OTC drugs force blood pressure to be lower/higher or force the liver to stop manufacturing healthy cholesterol. In fact, prescription or OTC drugs interfere with normal human metabolism, and that is one reason why prescription drugs are killing people. Yet, conventional medical doctors rely on propaganda about the unknown side effects of holistic health care to convince people that only prescription or OTC drugs are safe. It is NOT that they are terrified about the side effects of holistic health carethey are terrified of people being well and they wont have their business of prescribing life-long pills and potions. Western Medicine is profit driven. If everyone knew they could prevent any disease with plant extracts, medicinal herbs, natural vitamins, minerals, and supplements, as well as having peace of mindthe pharmaceutical and medical industry would collapse overnight. The World Health Organization, estimates that between 65 to 80 percent of the world’s population (about 3 billion people) rely on naturopathic or homeopathic medicine as their primary form of health care. Worldwide, only 10 to 30 percent of people use traditional medicine, 70 to 90 percent use naturopathic and homeopathic health care. 74 percent of the American population desires a natural approach to health care. Of the one out of three Americans who say they have used natural techniques, 84 percent said they would use it again. Traditional Chinese Medicine has been chosen by the World Health Organization for worldwide propagation to meet the health care needs of the twenty-first century. The U.S. government sponsors the use of acupuncture in drug rehabilitation programs. “In a [Mayo Clinic] study of 50 patients, six acupuncture treatments given over two to three weeks significantly improved their symptoms of pain and fatigue.” Time, 2005 “Americans make more visits to holistic health care providers (some 600 million a year) than to M.D.s and spend more money out-of-pocket to do so about $30 billion a year by recent estimates.” Newsweek, 12/2002 “A recent study performed by the American Massage Therapy Association revealed that 28 percent of people received a massage from a massage therapist in the past five years, up from 17 percent in 1997. Eighteen percent said they had a massage in the past 12 months. Thats 10 percent higher than was reported in 1997.” American Massage Therapy Association, 8/2002. The Journal of the American Medical Association Vol. 284 July 26, 2000, published an article documenting the tragedy of Traditional Western Medicine (TWM) paradigm. The author, Dr. Barbara Starfield of Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health describes how the U.S. health care system may contribute to poor health. Doctors, she stated, are the third leading cause of death in the U.S., causing 250,000 deaths every year. This information is a follow-up to the Institute of Medicine report December, 1999, but the data was hard to reference as it was not in peer-reviewed journal. Now it is published in JAMA which is the most widely circulated medical periodical in the world. DEATHS PER YEAR: 1. 12,000 —–unnecessary surgery 2. 7,000 —–medication errors in hospitals 3. 20,000 —-other errors in hospitals 4. 80,000 —-infections in hospitals 5. 106,000 —non-error, negative effects of drugs 250,000 deaths per year from iatrogenic–death induced in a patient by a physician’s activity, manner, or therapy, especially of a complication of treatment causes–is outrageous!! Yet, the majority of people continue to trust the medical profession to ‘cure’ them, in spite of all the evidence to the contrary. Of 13 countries in a recent comparison, the United States ranks an average of 12th (second from the bottom) for 16 available health indicators. The ranking of the U.S. on several indicators was: 13th (last) for low-birth-weight percentages 13th for neonatal mortality and infant mortality overall 14 11th for post neonatal mortality 13th for years of potential life lost (excluding external causes) 11th for life expectancy at 1 year for females, 12th for males 10th for life expectancy at 15 years for females, 12th for males 10th for life expectancy at 40 years for females, 9th for males 7th for life expectancy at 65 years for females, 7th for males 3rd for life expectancy at 80 years for females, 3rd for males 10th for age-adjusted mortality The poor performance of the U.S. medical profession was recently confirmed by a World Health Organization study, which used different data and ranked the United States as 15th among 25 industrialized countries. College Essays

By Ken Marlborough College essays are of great importance when seeking admission to a college. In this regard, choice of a topic is very significant. College essays reveal the individual characteristics of the student and help the College Board in forming a correct picture regarding the students preferences, value systems, sense of humor, discipline and other core aspects. The primary questions any college essay usually addresses are the students reasons for choosing a particular institution. The authorities will also try to evaluate the creative and critical skills of the prospective student. Therefore the student should choose a topic with great care. Once the topic is finalized, it is advisable to prepare a rough draft. It is important that the points for the essay are thought out and put into a preliminary order, so that the rough draft can be prepared well in advance. The rough draft will help to bring focus to the rambling ideas and enable a creative reorganization of the same. Just as in normal essay writing, the college essay has to be divided into paragraphs. Each paragraph can elaborate a point discussed. Economy of words is a desirable quality. The college essay is ideally one written in a focused style, since a rambling style can distract the reader. An uncalled for ornate style is best avoided — simple language very often serves the purpose. College essays should be proofread thoroughly so that typos, grammatical and spelling errors do not occur. Any references made have to be properly cited, so that nothing is left vague. Slang usage has to be necessarily avoided; repetition of the same idea is another pitfall that the student has to stay away from. The essay should encode the enthusiasm and eagerness of the student and must never be written in an indifferent style. A well-written college essay will highlight the sincerity, commitment and creativity of the applicant. The college essay is in every way the best and practical tool to ensure enrollment in an institution of ones choice. Easy Ways to Sort Glass-Painting Mistakes

By Geraldine Jozefiak Making mistakes in craftwork can often seem like a disaster. Sometimes you feel like binning the whole thing and starting again. When you’re working with acetate and glass that isn’t always practical. I’ve used the suggestions below to help many learners feel more confident in sorting common mistakes in Glass Painting. What type of mistakes? The common mistakes come in using outline pen, acrylic paste or methylated-based glass paints. Though different materials, they are all sorted with a single product . It will be no surprise to hear that product is methylated spirits. Outline pens used in glass painting are generally designed for use with overhead projectors and are methylated based. That means that the pens, and the paste used for the thicker 3D outlines, can all be removed with clean meths. Mistakes made with methylated-based glass paints can be removed in the same way. Use water for removing mistakes made with water-based paints. Removing pen and outline mistakes Whether you are using an outline pen, or paste, the process is the same for both. Follow the instructions carefully and you should completely remove the problem ready to start again. What you need to prepare 1. Pour a small amount of clean methylated spirits into a clean individual sized jam jar and replace the lid. 2. Cover your table with newspaper and place a blank sheet of copy paper on top. 3. Place your acetate or glass on the paper. 4. Gather a few clean cotton buds. What you do 1. Dip one end of a clean cotton bud into the clean meths. and replace the lid. 2. Holding the dipped cotton bud end against one end of the ‘mistake’, gently roll the cotton bud away from you through the mistake. 3. As you do this, the meths-soaked bud will absorb the paste or pen ink. 4. Don’t drag the cotton bud or you may make more of a mess. 5. Continue by dipping in a clean end and roll again until the mistake has gone. You may need to do this a few times. What next 1. Don’t forget that you’ll need to put back the design outline after all this cleaning. 2. Refresh the design outline again using your paste or pen. Practice When you first do this it can be fiddly but the result is a good as new piece of work. If it helps to restore confidence then it’s important to sort out any mistakes as soon as possible. Left uncorrected it’s easy for learners to get discouraged and give up. And if they have had earlier “I can’t do craft” experiences, this will just feel like another that convinces them. I always show people how to sort out mistakes, and generally, when demonstrating how to do outlines, I make a mistake! They’re not to know if I did it on purpose of not - unless I tell them. It makes it all seem as if problems are really not a problem after all. Practice this before your session so that you feel confident and you’ll soon have everyone churning out great pieces of work that they are proud off. And if you do have to start again, hey, no big deal. Start by using materials that won’t break the bank. Acetate is a brilliant place to start as it’s easily obtainable, cheap and easy to use. Business Loans: The SBA Loan Program

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Robert_Cash]Robert Cash If either you are starting a new business or trying to update an existing one, you will most likely need a source of funds to do so. If you are not able to fund it yourself, you will find yourself in a position of having to apply for a business loan. Most American entrepreneurs consult with the SBA for that purpose. SBA stands for Small Business Administration and was created to assist small to medium American entrepreneurs. It not only helps in getting your finances organized but it also provides advice to small and medium companies. In case you need a business loan, the SBA can also help you getting the funding from a partner financial institution. Although the SBA does not provide business loans directly, it can put you in the right track and help mediate the proceedings. If you own a small business you can apply for an SBA guaranteed business loan. If you want this loan to be approved there are certain conditions that need to be followed. Those conditions range from the nature of your business, to the purpose of the business loan, the guarantee fee, the maturity period and your business size. If you are serious about getting your business loan with the help of the SBA, it is better that you gather the most amount of information that you can, to guarantee you meet all the requirements for the said business loan. Consulting with your bank can also be a good idea. You know you will need a lender for this endeavor and you will need to inform him/them of all your companies activities, profits and losses. It can happen that the lender approves your loan right away. In the case the lender refuses your application, than you can ask him to provide you with an SBA application form. That form should be completely filled and forwarded to the SBA. The process of getting a business loan through the SBA is not has difficult as it seems, all you have to do is follow all the steps the entities give you. For your convenience, here follows a small list of documents that are required when requesting a business loan: -Profit and loss statement and Balance sheet for the past 3 years. -Income tax returns for the past 3 years. -Filled loan application form. (This form must be completely filled) -Cash flow projections for one year. -History of business and how a statement on how an SBA approved loan would help the business. -Clear personal credit history. - Personal financial statement. -Cover letter and resume of the participating owners. -Certificate of doing business. -Business lease papers. Do not forget to put all your efforts in getting your business loan. Your determination will be as important in getting your business loan as the viability of your business itself. Chinese Medicine: Five Spirits that Relate to Your Health and Wellbeing

By Gudni Einarsson The Five Shen in Chinese Medicine. These are not so easy too explain. Shen or spirits are not everybodys cup of tea. Since I am talking about tea, lets continue on that theme. Tea is an herb with certain qualities. These qualities act on our body. Of course the most obvious one is caffeine. So what does caffeine do? It helps to keep away predators like bugs. It is a defence mechanism. So how in earth did this humble plant think of this defence of complicated molecules called caffeine. Well beats me, except if we allow ourselves to imagine a primordial intelligences or basic smartness of staying alive and develop, through a law of cause and effect. These intelligences work with us, but it is our responsibility through choices to stay on the course, so these energies and qualities can serve us through maintenance of balance in our body, minds and soul. Everything is energy. This fact has been demonstrated in western science and they are just beginning to understand it. In the Hindu scriptures they talk about there is energy in everything. They call it prana. So in the metaphysical world, this has always been known and the healing methods are based on to help these energies so they can do their work without hindrance. Do the atoms possess intelligence? That is what Thomas Edison was saying. All energy has intellect. But then again this is all theory. Heart-Shen Shen the main one, which reside in the Heart, is responsible for sleep, memory, thinking and consciousness. It is in control of the other spirits. If the Shen is disturbed then all these factors are not going to work in harmony. There will be too much sleep or too little. Memory will be bad. Thinking would be clouded or dull and there might even be loss of consciousness. So you can say it is the brain, in material terms. According to the Chinese philosophy then the brain is directly build with the essence from the Kidneys. The heart and the Kidneys are connected through the vertical axis. The axis between heaven and earth. So clear pathway between heaven and earth is imperative for balance. Emotional stress affects the Heart and therefore the Kidneys and its essence. Likewise if the essence are injured then the Heart will suffer and therefore the mind. All emotions affect the Heart, but for example anger affects the Liver in particular, since anger is related to the Liver. Liver-Hun Hun is the name for what in the west would be called soul. Hun has connection to the Liver and it is interesting to note that the Liver controls the eyes and often we say that the soul is reflected in the eyes. Funny how our instinct tells us what is going on. If Liver blood is deficient than the Hun or the soul has problem to anchor itself in the body. In terms of relationship of the Shen with the Hun then we can say that when Hun coming and going is normal than the mind is stable. If it is going too much then there is mania. If it is going too little the there is depression. Hun is the creative one. It has the capacity for ideas, inspiration, vision an so forth. It is the drive towards something greater and welcomes challenges of life. If this capability is over driven then there is more chaos than focus. Therefore this can be indication of what we call depression. Lungs-Po Po belongs to the Lungs. It is called in western terms the corporeal soul. Po has the role of survival. The lungs keeps us alive thorough breathing. If we stop breathing we die rather quickly. As well it helps us to desire and enjoy, like food, sex and gather materials. This is all for basic survival. Maybe we can say that since sadness and grief is the emotions of the Lungs than we loose this way of survival. Po would be affected by these emotions and we find us to be less motivated to eat, wash ourselves and gather in terms of wages for work and so on. Po is in charge of all physiological processes and it has strong connection to the essences. Blood for example is carrier of oxygen through the Lungs. Oxygen is catalyst for many effects in the body processes. Now we get again to the connection with the blood. Po is as well responsible for feelings and sensations, which helps us to identify with the world. So Po is all about physical. It is possible to say that it cooperates with Hun and helps it to have connection with the physical. After death Hun survives but the Po dissolves after some time. Spleen-Yi The spirit of the Spleen is Yi. That stands for intelligent. It has to do with concentration, focusing, memorizing, applied thinking and generating ideas. So it has to do with studying. If the spleen is weak then ability to study would suffer. Likewise if there is too much study or concentration in work then the spleen will suffer. Dull thinking and lack of concentration is spleen weakness. This is not to say that spleen would be the only organ involved. The heart and kidneys play a role of memory and ability to think. Heart has to do with long term memory about events in the past. The kidneys help wit the memory of recent events. Old people are more in connection with memories from the past, but are often forgetful about the present. This is due too the kidneys becoming weaker with old age and therefore recent events are easily forgotten. Kidneys-Zhi The Kidneys houses the Zhi. This has do with will power. It s the pursuing of an aim or goal. If the will is strong it will provide focus. If it is weak it will be harder to stay on the track and you might be more easily discouraged. There is aspect of motivation, so you can say that there is this element of so called depression. The Zhi also has to do with recall of memory or storing.
