Biography of Paramahansa Yogananda

By Richard Pettinger Paramahansa Yogananda was born in Gorakphur India January 5th 1893. Gorakphur is in the north of India and is associated with the great saint Gorakshanath who lived in the 10th - 12th Century. Yogananda was brought up in a devout loving Hindu family. At an early age Yoganandas mother passed away and this pushed the young Mukunda (as he then was) into a deep grief. However this experience encouraged Yogananda to seek beyond the world and practise spiritual discipline. In his famous autobiography of a Yogi he explains how his early life was filled with visiting various the various saints of Bengal and seeking to learn from their spiritual wisdom. One of these early teachers was Master Mahasaya who was a direct disciple of Sri Ramakrishna and wrote the Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna. Yoganandas interest in spiritual studies did not however extend to academic studies and his book explains how he sought to do as little academic work as possible. In fact at one point he left home to go on a pilgrimage to the Himalayas. His family however disapproved of his tendency to renounce the world and he was found by his brother and bought back. At the age of 17 years Yogananda met his Spiritual Master Sri Yukteswar. Sri Yukteswar was a disciple of Lahiri Mahasaya who in turn had received initiation from the immortal Babaji in the Himalayas. On becoming a disciple of Sri Yukteswar Yogananda spent most of his time in the ashram of his Master where he practised meditation for many hours eventually attaining a glimpse of the cosmic consciousness. In 1917 Yogananda started work as a teacher in a school in Ranchi. The school was a special combination of modern educational methods and the ancient Indian Yoga systems to promote spiritual and physical well being. Mahatma Gandhi visited the school and was moved to say: This institution has deeply impressed my mind. Increasingly Paramahansa Yogananda felt a call to travel to America and with his Gurus blessings Yogananda left India for America in 1920 as a delegate to an international congress of religious leaders in Boston. In 1924 he returned to America to begin a lecture tour in which he offered the highest spiritual ideals of Vedanta in a format appropriate for modern American audiences. It was also in 1924 that Yogananda founded the Self Realisation Fellowship an organisation dedicated to promoting the ideals of Yogananda and providing an opportunity for seekers to practise his teachings. Over the next 20 years the teachings of Yogananda prospered and many sincere seekers were attracted to the yoga system and teachings he offered. Therefore Yogananda sought to establish a spiritual community or ashram in Los Angeles. This has now become the headquarters of the Self Realisation Fellowship. In 1935 Yogananda returned to India for 18 months. Here he embarked on another tour meeting many of Indias great saints of the days. These included Mahatma Gandhi, Ramana Maharshi and Sri Anandamayi Ma. And are recounted in his best selling book Autobiography of a Yogi. After returning to America Yoganada retreated somewhat from public life seeking to spend more time in meditation and writing spiritual guidance for the future when he was no longer living. On March 7th 1952 Yogananda entered mahasamadhi (which is a Yogis conscious decision to leave the body). R. Pettinger enjoys writings biographies of people. He mainly writes biographies of spiritual or religious figures. He edits a site Biography Online which is a growing collection of biographies about a range of people including, Paramahansa Yogananda and Sri Aurobindo and several others http://www.biographyonline.net/ Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Richard_Pettinger http://EzineArticles.com/?Biography-of-Paramahansa-Yogananda&id=235691 ambien free sample ativan dangers ambien fast order 10 ambien

How to Choose the Best Online Dating Site for You

By George Wood Online dating is an exciting new way for you to make romantic connections with the man or woman of your dreams. We all need all the help we can get. We use connections from friends, clubs, bars and parties . . . anything we can figure out that works to find new people to date and places where available singles might congregate. As you look into new alternatives you might explore personal ads, blind dates, etc., but online dating is another whole world. The good thing is the internet is full of really helpful dating sites that can help us make just the right kind of contact with the types of people we know we will hit it off with. But before beginning your search, you will need some guidelines on how to choose the right service for you. Online services usually charge a membership fee and you sure dont want to sign up for every one you are curious about. Plus it takes time to get used to the features so you want to quickly pick just the right one, get your subscription going, and get started on your way to a fun and exciting online romantic life. So here are a few guidelines on how to pick one. After you do an initial scan and develop perhaps a list of a dozen or two sites that might be candidates, you can begin to develop a checklist to compare their features. The use of a spreadsheet is excellent for this. You can build a pretty complete list of features without spending any money on them. As you browse through the different features pages of various online dating services, sometimes that alone will help eliminate some from the list. Determine what your target is. If you want to belong to two or three services, then you can have some variety in your services. Much of that is a budget decision. So on your comparison sheet or spreadsheet, make sure you have a place to describe the costs. If its a one-time cost, show that or if there is a monthly subscription, show that. Once you get all the services you like listed, it will become apparent pretty quickly which ones are overpriced or beyond your budget and that, too, will help you narrow down your list. So you have two big criteria: cost and variety of features and services to use for comparison. The third criteria is specializations. You will find dating services that cater to certain age groups, to certain ethnic, religious or regional needs, and even to certain sexual or special interest groups, such as people who like art or music. You will see as you review each site if they are targeted to just that group. From there you can determine which appeals to you and what you want. If you wish to use the service to meet women in your area to eventually connect with, you dont want to waste your time or money on a service geared to another part of the country. Take some time performing this evaluation perhaps a day or two and when you get done you will feel satisfied that you picked just the right dating service for you. Better yet, you will see results begin to happen for you and start making really great romantic connections on your service because you took the time to pick the right one. But, you may be wondering if they are achievable for the average student. The good news is they most certainly are. Not all scholarships are academic scholarships that consider only the straight A, honor-roll students. Many relatively unknown scholarships are available. And, there are many others out there like them. But, how in the world do you go about finding one the suits you (or your students) quirks? The information is out there, much of it online. Here are 3 Simple Tips for locating unusual scholarships online: 1. Use Search Engines - Using Google search for “left hand scholarships” (with quotes) if you are left handed. Insert your various unique qualities and / or hobbies. Don’t overlook small things, like hair color, eye color, height, etc… You never know what you will find! 2. Sign Up For a Scholarship Database - There are many scholarship databases online, some free, some paid. These databases usually contain a fairly comprehensive list of available scholarships. We review several popular databases on our site. 3.Visit message boards and forums - A search on your favorite search engine for “scholarship forum” or “scholarship message board” will likely provide you with a wealth of resources. Visit active forums to network with other students who are looking for scholarships. Interesting scholarshipswill likely get talked about. This is a great way of getting “in the know”. What Are You Getting Yourself for Valentine’s Day?

By Kaya Casper On February 14, 2007, millions of women will sit at home alone, commiserating over the boyfriends or husbands we dont have. We will damn our prettier, skinnier, perkier friends who have boyfriends. We will commit to man-catching diets and convince ourselves we need to smile more, while lying on the couch in ill-fitted flannel pajamas tossing back bon bons and soda. We will blink back tears as other women get diamond rings and surprise proposals on Tyras Valentines Day Special. We will beg God for an answer as to why we have no one to get us a box of chocolates, a sappy card, or a dozen roses on Valentines Day. All the while, the rest of the world buzzes along, while we sit in self-imposed misery, waiting for love and happiness to knock on the door. Well, there is no need to sit at home thinking about what you dont have, wasting time and energy dreaming about what you want. Go out and get it. Whether you want a giant teddy bear, a meal at your favorite restaurant, or some sexy new pajamas, you do not have to wait around for someone else to give it to you. Give it to yourself. You may be thinking But its not the same! And youre right; its not the same. Its even better. Once you realize you can do these things for yourself, you free yourself from dependence on others for your happiness. This is no less important when you are in a relationship. Lets face it, men are not mind readers (as Dr. Phil has made very clear), and we all know it takes the fun out of it when you have to tell him exactly what you want. More often than not, even the best of boyfriends can only be expected to provide the holy Valentines Day trinity: flowers, candy, and dinner. But what if you wanted a massage at a spa? Are you going to tell him and get mad that you had to tell him? Are you going to drop hints and get mad when he doesnt get them? Dont do either. Just call the spa and make an appointment for yourself. Accept whatever he comes up with on his own with a smile, because you have already secured your own happiness this is just icing on the cake. This is not limited to Valentines Day. So often, we are last on our own priority lists. We fantasize about our Prince Charming coming along and sweeping us away, doing all sorts of nice things for us. That may or may not happen, but it is important to take your happiness in your own hands every day. That may be taking a long hot bubble bath with scented candles, or having a glass of wine while listening to your favorite CD. Youd be surprised how these small doses of self-gratification will improve your overall happiness. I know what youre saying. I dont have the time, I dont have the money, I have more important things to worry about. These are all self-defeating thoughts that prevent us from taking control of our own happiness. We are taught that we should be selfless, putting the needs of others before our own. However, after long periods of doing this we have nothing left to give. On the other hand, when we fill ourselves up with happiness by fulfilling our own wishes, we exude that and make others happy with our very presence. All those things you wish you had the time, money, or energy to do? Dont wish. Do them. This Valentines Day, get yourself an extra large dose of self-love. Fountain Pen History

By Eddie Tobey The urge to write and draw can be dated back to the early ages of human civilization. Caves discovered by archeologists are proof of the attempts of the primitive men to draw and write. From engraving on stone plates and cave walls to writing on palm leaves and hieroglyph inscriptions, mankind has been trying to preserve its thoughts using various implements: sharp stones, reeds, metals and quills. The invention of ink and paper changed the mode of writing by scratching. Quills were dipped in a reservoir of ink and used for writing. Holding a thin quill didnt suit to writing for long hours. It struck the early inventors that the hollow channel in a birds feather can store ink for writing. The fountain pen in its raw form was born. The first mention of fountain pen can be traced to the Egyptians. Hassan El Basha Mamoud an Egyptian scholar translated a manuscript from Fatimid dynasty dating to 969 AD, which talks about using a pen without an inkpot. A pen was made of gold and presented before the caliph. It had its own ink reservoir. But the pen leaked, and hence a better one was ordered. The same pen with modifications was presented. This time, there was no ink spill when the pen was tilted to all sides. The pen wrote fluidly on contact with paper, and ink disappeared as soon as the pen was lifted from the surface of paper to the amazement of the onlookers. Except for the writing on the manuscript, there was no other evidence that such a writing implement was ever used. The earliest fountain pen was designed by M. Bion, a Frenchman, in 1702. There were many producers of fountain pens in the early 1800s. John Scheffer, a Britishman, mass-produced fountain pens that were half quill and half metal. The ink was stored in sheeps gut. But all such early attempts at holding ink in hard rubber tubes with a metal nib at the bottom were messy. Necessity is the mother of invention, and its wonderful how path breaking inventions are made. Lewis Waterman, the inventor of the fountain pen used widely, determined to do something after a valuable contract document was destroyed by spilling ink from the pen he usedan insurance salesman turned into an inventor. Waterman patented the fountain pen in 1884, and started mass-producing it. The fountain pen in its true form was born. Fountain Pens provides detailed information on Fountain Pens, Fountain Pen Cases, Fountain Pen Refills, Fountain Pen History and more. Fountain Pens is affiliated with Fountain Pens. A Chef Here, A Chef There, Chefs, Chefs Everywhere!

By Terry Kaufman You are in a 5-star restaurant, seated at a table set with pristine tablecloths and napkins (how do they fold them so fancifully?). The bone china plates are gleaming, as well as the many kinds of glassware sitting on the table, surrounded by beautifully polished silverware (no stainless steel here!). The wait staff hover by your elbow, in anticipation of your slightest whim. How could anything be more perfect? But wait! What is that organized chaos you can see when the kitchen doors swing open? It is WHAT?!?!! It is a positive human ant colony, running in every combination known to man. Some ants are chopping vegetables while# others are artistically assembling decadent chocolate desserts. One is laboriously stirring a huge pot containing some exotic sauce. As quickly and as diligently the worker ants are toiling, there is someone of supreme authority and sheer talent standing in the middle of the kitchen, always screaming at one ant or another for the smallest infraction of the kitchen rules or protocol. What is this convoluted society? Yes, it is the Master Chef and his minions, turning out extraordinary entrees and desserts to the sophisticated diners who are beginning to get restless. Get the food on the table! Now!! So now you have had a good glimpse into a working kitchen. Is there any organization to it or to its workers? You bet your bippy there is. Let us start at the top of the chefs ladder and work ourselves down to ground level. The Boss Ant, or the Chef de Cuisine, is the ruling force of the kitchen. He is the one who makes all the creative decisions, including taking responsibility for what food will be chosen and how it is to be cooked. Generally speaking, he is a high profile celebrity, giving the restaurant his personality. He is not in the kitchen very often but in an emergency, will step down from his dais and actually cook. The next step down is the Executive Chef. He is part of the top management structure of his restaurant. He is primarily one who is a pencil pusher. He plans the menus, makes recipes, and manages matters financial. He cooks occasionally. Most of the time the Executive Chef replaces the Chef de Cuisine. Unless the restaurant is a huge enterprise, there really is no need for a Chef de Cuisine when, in reality, the Executive Chef is qualified to do it all, including hiring and firing. Now we come to the next rung down on our ladder. The Sous Chef is a very busy person. Despite his title, he is entrusted with all kinds of responsibilities from deciding on the daily specials (what kind of vegetable was bought in too great a quantity yesterday?), doing inventory, supervising the staff, and taking care of whatever responsibilities are hanging there in kitchen limbo. He may have aspirations one day of owning his own restaurant upon which to mold his personality. He looks to the future. The Expediter is the liaison between the paying guests and the line cooks. He makes sure a table gets all its food simultaneously. He is the one who soothes ruffled feathers, no matter which side of the kitchen passthrough counter. He needs to be on top of things at all times. A step further down are the Station Chefs or Chefs de Partie who are in charge of various food stations. It is their job to keep on schedule. The Sauce Chef or Saucier does sauces, stews, and hot hors doeuvres. He sauts dishes to order and is the highest link of the chefs de partie. Fish dishes come from the Fish Cook of Poissonier. The Vegetable Cook or Entremetier is responsible for preparing vegetables, soups, starches, and eggs. (Funny - you would think the soups would come from the saucier. Oh,well.) Roasted and braised meats come from the Roast Cook or Rotisseuer, along with gravies and broiled meats. If a kitchen is a large enough enterprise, there might be a separate Broiler Cook or Grillardin who will also deep fry meats and fish. Next to last in this category is the Pantry Chef or Garde Manger who does cold foods such as salads and dressings, pats, cold hors doeuvres, or buffet items. Finally comes the Pastry Chef or Patissier who is responsible for desserts and pastries, often in an area of the kitchen where it is cooler and there is less of a chance of anyone accidentally bumping into fragile and delicate spun sugar or a souffl that is already to collapse on its own. We have descended the chefs ladder all the way down to the worker ants or Line Cooks. Theses industrious people are the ones who can make or break a meal for they alone are left responsible for prep work like chopping vegetables into a million tiny pieces. One last thought: Chefs wear snowy white chefs jackets and an equally white toque to sit on his head. Why is it you never see a chef coming out to speak to the patrons in the dining room with a jacket splashed with some sticky sauce? I cannot even eat spaghetti without it adorning me from head to toe. Not fair!!! Roman Catholicism: Why I had to leave PART 4

By Michael Tummillo There are many stories about the “bad popes” of Roman Catholicism. Though many of these are true, the famous “Pope Joan” story is regarded by many as a fabrication. Unless you talk to people like Donna Cross, a novelist who, after 7 years of research, wrote a book on “Pope Joan.” She claims the historical evidence is there. “I would say it’s the weight of evidence — over 500 chronicle accounts of her existence.” Another person who seems convinced, though no longer living, was Martin Polonus, a monk and close advisor to the pope. In his “History of Emperors and Popes,” Polonus wrote about a young woman from Mainz who learned Greek and Latin and became “proficient in a diversity of branches of knowledge.” Pope Joan supposedly served as pope from until 858. She was said to have been a poor German girl whose mud hut village of Mainz was taught Christianity by English missionaries. Supposedly, she took on her brother’s identity when he was killed by Vikings, calling herself John Anglicus (English John), and joined a monastery for boys called Fulda. She disguised herself as a monk to be with her cleric boyfriend in Rome, where she so impressed others with her Christian scholarly learning that she - still impersonating a monk - was eventually elected pope. With ambition and nerve, English John became secretary to a cardinal, and then, as Polonus writes, “the choice of all for pope” in the year A.D. 855. The jig was up when she gave birth during a procession, whereupon she and the child were killed. Other records say she was sent to a convent and that her son grew up and later became bishop of Ostia. The “experts” are torn regarding the legitimacy of the story. Oddly, future popes for 100 years avoided taking that dreadful route - a very direct one at that - upon returning to the Vatican. Polonus writes: “The Lord Pope always turns aside from the street … because of the abhorrence of the event.” If you travel to Italy and ask questions about Pope Joan, many will direct you toward the clues embedded in art, literature and architecture. The Renaissance poet Giovanni Boccaccio, best known for writing “The Decameron,” also wrote a book on “100 Famous Women.” No. 51 on his list? Pope Joan. Rare book dealers in Rome pull ancient tarot cards from their shelves. The card for hidden knowledge is called “La Papessa” — the Female Pope. Northward, in Siena, is the Duomo, where inside the cathedral is a gallery of terra-cotta busts depicting 170 popes, in no particular order. In the 17th century, Cardinal Baronuis, the Vatican librarian, wrote that one of the faces was a female — Joan the Female Pope. He also wrote that the when pope at the time decreed that the statue be destroyed, the local archbishop couldn’t stand to see a good statue go to waste. “The statue was transformed,” believes Donna Cross. “…literally, it [the name, John Anglicus] was scraped off…” and written in its place was “Pope Zachary.” At the Basilica in St. Peter’s Square are carvings by Bernini, one of the most famous artists of the 17th century. Among the carvings are eight images of a woman wearing a papal crown, each faces increasingly contorted as if it were a woman suffering in child birth. Seven of the carved images seem to tell the story of a woman giving birth, the eighth being the unmistakable carving of a smiling baby. Many other papal stories are undeniably true. In many cases, sins of the flesh were the least of their publicized sins. In the Middle Ages, many popes were elevated to office following the murder of their predecessors. During one particularly sad stretch of popes (882 to 1046), there were 37 popes, some of whom served less than a month. For example, Leo V (903) had been pope for only a month before being imprisoned and tortured by Christophorus, who then enthroned himself. Both men were killed in 904 on the orders of Pope Sergius III (904-911). That pope later had a son by his teenaged mistress Marozia who became Pope John XI (931-935). In 914, according to one chronicler, Marozia’s mother Theodora installed her lover on the papal throne as John X (914-928). (Theodora and Marozia effectively controlled the papacy through their lineage and, some say, may be the source of the Pope Joan stories.) John XII (955-963), who landed the pope job at age 19, was accused, perhaps falsely, of sleeping with his father’s mistress, committing incest with his niece, and castrating a deacon. “Popes … killed each other off, hammered each other to death,” says Mary Malone, a former Catholic nun. “There were 12-year-old popes … we have knowledge of a 5-year-old archbishop… It was a very odd time in history.” In later years, murder gave way to bribery as the way down the “Roman Road.” Some 40 popes are believed to have bought their Vatican jobs. But the lax attitude toward celibacy remained unchanged. In large part this was because the Roman Catholic Church was an important route to wealth and power. Sons of influential families were pushed into Church careers much as a wealthy, powerful Ivy League Alumni might pull some strings to get their kid to their Alma Mater. Noblemen with mistresses saw no reason to adjust their life-styles just because they had taken spiritual vows. Sadly, even today, far too many ministers of all denominations see their position as a job rather than a vocation; a calling from God Himself. Cardinals and popes getting their relatives a cushy job at the Vatican was the source of many jokes in Rome for centuries. Innocent VIII (1484-1492) had a son and daughter who lived with him in the Vatican. The notorious Alexander VI (1492-1503), born Rodrigo Borgia, had at least four illegitimate children while still a cardinal, among them the cutthroat Cesare Borgia and the reputed poisoner Lucrezia Borgia. Clement VII (1523-1534), himself illegitimate, had a son whom he attempted to make duke of Florence. Paul III (1534-1539) had four kids; two teen grandsons he made cardinals. Pius IV (1559-1565) had three children, et cetera, ad nauseam. Where papal kids and their holy fathers are concerned, there’s a tradition that Pope Hormisdas (514-523) was the father of Pope Silverius (536-537). It may not be proper to call Silverius illegitimate, since the rule of clerical celibacy was not firmly established in the early Church. Exactly how many “holy fathers” there were is probably impossible to determine, due to the lack of documentation for such things. The Catholic Church has been pretty forthcoming about these naughty popes, opening the Vatican archives to historians in the 19th century. The Church acknowledges that the office has been held by unworthy men, but maintains that their papal functions were unimpaired by their carnality, something we might hear more often in connection with politicians. Alas, the doctrine of papal infallibility applies only to certain formal pronouncements on faith and morals, so it is argued that the bad popes did not lead the church astray. Regarding papal infallibility, the Encyclopedia Britannica says, “The definition of the first Vatican Council … states the conditions under which a pope may be said to have spoken infallibly, or ex cathedra. It is prerequisite that the pope intend to demand irrevocable assent from the entire church in some aspect of faith or morals.” The ordinary teachings of the Church, by contrast, are not infallible. The pope can say what he likes about birth control, for example, and Catholics are obliged to obey, at least in the conservative view. But until he makes an infallible pronouncement on the subject, he has the option of someday changing his mind. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Pastor Michael is founder of t.e.a.m. ministries (team1min@aol.com). 3G Mobile Phones: What’s All the Fuss About?

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=John_Bertone]John Bertone For the last few years there has been a lot of talk about 3G or Third Generation mobile phones. Telecommunications and electronics manufacturing giants made the news as they battled to be the first in what was hoped would be a huge market for a new era of mobile communication, and then when 3G was actually set up, mobile phone companies tried to convince consumers to upgrade to the new services. Despite all the talk, a lot of people still dont know what 3G really means. What follows is a brief guide to 3G mobile phone communication. What is it? 3G means that the new generation of mobile phones now have the capacity to hook up to wireless broadband services. The connection speed is 144 kbps and which is roughly three times the speed of a 56K dial up modem connection. Some services offer higher connection speeds. With this enhanced connectivity you can now surf the Internet from a phone, enjoy streaming music video, watch on-demand video programming, download and play 3D games, and videoconference with your friends and colleagues. Laptop users also can take advantage of 3G networks for mobile broadband without a Wi-Fi network; all you need is a carrier-supplied PC Card and a data plan. What kinds of 3G networks exist? There are two main varieties of 3G: UMTS (Universal Mobile Telephone Service), which uses W-CDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access) as its underlying standard, and CDMA2000 1xEV-DO (Evolution-Data Optimised), which brings 3G speeds to CDMA networks. Both W-CDMA and 1xEV-DO are already available in major cities in Australia with more expansion coming soon. Speeds for both should be about entry-level ADSL quality. Which Companies provide 3G services? In Australia, The big four mobile phone networks / carriers all have 3G services, but they each have different plans, services and coverage areas. Presently the service of these carriers is not provided in all localities, and when a user goes outside the 3G supported areas, the phones fall back on the normal GSM/ GPRS system enabling users to reach approximately 95% of the mobile phone population. Service plans from the major providers range from around $20 a month and up. What Kinds of Phones Support 3G? If you want to take advantage of 3G you not only have to subscribe to a new service plan, but you need a new phone. Third-generation handsets offer video calls, music downloads and streaming services. They’re generally a bit bigger than their 2G predecessors but offer a whole lot more multimedia capacity. All the major manufacturers (Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Motorola, Sharp, NEC, Samsung) sell models with 3G capacity. Check with your service provider to find out which handsets are suitable for the plan that you wish to sign up for. Whats coming next? In the near future the connection speeds of 144kbps will be increased to 30-100 Mbps in the so-called 4G networks. These speeds will allow users to enjoy high-quality streaming video, high-quality videoconferencing and voice-over-IP mobile communication. If you enjoy the services that you get on a broadband Internet connection and would like to have them in your pocket, then the time is right to take a close look at 3G mobile phones. Set a Family Budget That Includes Coupons

By Mike Whitehead When your family sits down to set a family budget you might not be considering the value that coupons and rebates hold. Those little slips of paper you clip out of the newspaper and magazine can add up to big savings. The practice of cutting coupons is decades old. People get their scissors ready and flip through newspaper inserts and magazines cutting out coupons that help them save money on a favored product. While most coupons offer a savings that might seem minute, when you put them altogether it can add up to tidy sum. There is a craft to cutting and using coupons and rebate forms and with a little planning while you set up a family budget, you can easily save a sizable amount of money. Factoring in the savings that youll garner from coupons isnt prudent during the budget planning stage. After all, you cant predict how much money you will save that month by using coupons. However, you can keep track of how much money you actually save and put that in a rainy day jar or a mad money bucket. That way, when you want a special treat or decide to take the family out to a nice dinner youll already have the financial resources to do that without it impacting the decisions you made when you set a family budget. There are a few important rules to follow to get the most value from coupons: Use coupons on sale items. If you do this you are dramatically reducing the price of something that you generally purchase at regular price. Watch for double coupon days at local stores. Some stores offer the consumer a chance to use their coupons at a double discount once a month. This can save a substantial amount of money even reducing the cost of certain items to almost nothing. Trade coupons with friends, relatives or co-workers. Many people cut coupons and save them waiting for a chance to use them. If they have a coupon for a product you normally buy and vise versa, you can make a trade. Visit websites that offer coupon discounts. There are many websites that have literally hundreds of dollars of discount coupons available. All you do is point, click and print. Use rebate forms for sale items. If you have a rebate form for a product, purchase it when its on sale and be certain to ask for two copies of the receipt. Most rebate requests dont honor photocopied receipts and if you have two copies, both printed from the stores cash register, you can keep one for warranty purposes and use the other to mail-in for your rebate. When you work to set a family budget in place, consider that coupons are akin to bonuses. When you use one, take the money saved and use it one something special. The whole family will want to take part, just to get the reward! M.S.Whitehead is the leader in family debt management. How To Shorten The Hem Of Pants With A Cuff

By Marian Lewis To shorten the hem of pants with a cuff is easy when you follow these instructions: First try on the pants to determine how much you need to shorten them. Measure both legs as one may be different from the other. Write down that number. Example: 3 inches. Then, measure the depth of the pant cuff and write down that number. Example: 1-1/4 inches. Next, release the stitching on each side of the cuff to drop it down. Now, measure the depth of the total hem with the cuff turned down. Example: 2-1/4 inches. Write that down. Remove the hem stitching and press the pants well with steam. Note: White vinegar is great to set or remove a crease. Just paint it right on the crease and press with steam. It will clear your sinuses, too. Don’t worry, you won’t smell like a salad when you wear your pants. Now, cut off the amount you determined that you needed to shorten the pants. The example was 3 inches. Finish the new raw edge to keep from fraying. You can either serge or zigzag the edge, whipstitch it or bind it with seam tape. Then, press up your new hem the same amount as the original hem. The example was 2-1/4 inches Stitch the hem in place and press well. Turn back the cuff the same amount as the original cuff. The example was 1-1/4 inches. Press well. Tack the cuff in place at the inseam and outseam of the pants. Enjoy your shortened cuffed pants. Try it! It just makes sense! 2006 Marian Lewis - All Rights Reserved 1st Step To Sewing Success Marian Lewis is a sewing instructor and the creator of an amazing new fitting method for hard-to-fit sewing folks.
